I’m Michaela, designer and boss lady here at North Design Co. The concept behind this business was created through years of freelance design, working with like-minded entrepreneurs. I wanted to bring more to the table and be able to help more clients strategically brand their businesses.
Design has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I'm inspired by serene mountain landscapes, lively social gatherings, world-wide travel, and rustic home decor. Most weekdays you'll find me in my newly remodeled home office - with my design assistant, Brew, curled up beneath my feet. On the weekends you most likely won't find me, as I'm usually off on some new adventure, finding new inspiration to bring into my designs.
During the process of designing my website, I unexpectedly lost the most important man in my life. My hunting partner, my business consultant, my rock... my dad. I wouldn't be where I am today without him, and he'll always be my guiding light.
It all started with Print Shop cd-rom. As a kid, I would play on my mom’s computer for hours, coming up with the most random excuses to create something.
Took my first computer graphics class. I instantly knew design is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
Headed over the hill. As the fourth generation Metzler to attend the University of Wyoming, I received my bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
Lucky to learn from the best. Both of my college professor’s had successful design businesses outside of teaching, WBO Co. and Studio JenVenn.
Internship to career. I worked part-time in the marketing department at the largest real estate company in southeast Wyoming. It was a fast-paced environment that taught me about working with clients (90+ of them), layout design, print requirements, and so much more!
Followed in my parents footsteps. I launched my first freelance design business, Michaela & Co. I worked at home every afternoon (+ early mornings, evenings, and weekends) on a wide variety of design projects, completely based on referrals.
Added even more to my plate. While still working part-time in marketing for some of the best realtors and people I know, I decided to also get my real estate license, all while keeping my freelance design business afloat. I love everything about looking at houses, interior design, and marketing real estate. It’s just a side hustle and a great excuse to get my eyes away from the computer.
There was a fire burning in my soul with passion for design and desire to help clients consistently brand and market their businesses. I took the leap to be 100% self-employed, re-branded my business and launched North Design Co.
